Brussels, Belgium—The Global Lighting Association (GLA) is pleased to announce a new partnership with the International Commission on Illumination, or CIE (from its French title, the Commission Internationale de L’Eclairage), in celebration of CIE’s centennial anniversary. The partnership represents a strategic alignment on energy efficient measures and quality issues, and the willingness of both parties to work on join initiatives that benefit the environment and the global population. Says Jan Denneman, President of the Global Lighting Association, “To an increasing extent, the challenges and opportunities of the lighting industry are playing out on a global field.

We are, therefore, happy to announce that the Global Lighting Association and the CIE will join forces to take the next steps towards innovation and sustainability. And we are also pleased to make this announcement in conjunction with the CIE’s one hundred year anniversary.” Founded in 1913, the CIE (www.cie.co.at) is the oldest and only international organization which is devoted to worldwide cooperation and the exchange of information on all matters relating to the science and art of light and lighting, colour and vision, photobiology and image technology.

With strong technical, scientific and cultural foundations, the CIE is an independent, non-profit organization that serves member countries on a voluntary basis. It has been accepted as representing the best authority on the subject and as such is recognized by ISO as an international standardization body.

The Global Lighting Association is the voice of the lighting industry on a global basis and, as a grouping of peak national and regional lighting associations, represents over 5,000 lighting manufacturers and US $50 billion annual sales.
