The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards Body of India under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, is pleased to announce the launch of a nationwide awareness and outreach program, being organized in collaboration with the Electric Lamp and Component Manufacturers Association (ELCOMA), titled:
“Illuminating the Future: A Comprehensive Workshop on Indian Standards, Codes and Regulations in Lighting”
This initiative has been conceived with the objective of enhancing awareness, strengthening industry preparedness, and promoting responsible and quality-driven growth across India’s lighting sector. The program will provide an in-depth understanding of the latest standards, policy frameworks, and regulatory requirements governing lighting products and applications in the country.
Key focus areas of the workshop include:
-The revised National Lighting Code of India (NLC) 2025
-Updated Codes of Practice for Indoor Lighting (IS 3646) and Public Road & Tunnel Lighting (IS 1944)
-Recent and revised Indian Standards on LED lamps, modules, luminaires, and drivers, covering both safety and performance requirements
-Key regulatory provisions and compliance mechanisms, including:
-BIS Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS)
-BEE Star Labelling for lighting products
-RoHS provisions under the E-Waste Management Rules
Target participants:
The program aims to foster constructive dialogue among: manufacturers, government departments, policy makers, regulators, academicians, consultants, testing laboratories, consumer bodies, and other relevant stakeholders of the lighting ecosystem.
Program rollout:
Workshops are proposed to be conducted across major metropolitan hubs —Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata and Chennai.
The final dates and venues for each location will be shared shortly along with the formal registration details.
